TROY, MI – The Motion Picture Institute, located in the vibrant city of Troy, Michigan, is proud to announce its 25th anniversary of pioneering education in film and digital media. Established as a beacon for aspiring filmmakers and behind-the-scenes talent, the Institute has dedicated a quarter of a century to nurturing the next generation of the film industry’s professionals.

With a unique approach to film education, the Motion Picture Institute distinguishes itself from larger academic institutions by focusing on quality over quantity. Annually, the institute meticulously selects around a hundred students for its rigorous and comprehensive one-year Motion Picture Production Program. Unlike conventional classrooms, MPI offers an unparalleled learning environment on active, working film sets within its 6000 square foot campus, featuring state-of-the-art soundstages.

“From day one, students are immersed in the real-world environment of a film set that serves as their classroom,” says Douglas Schulze, Co-Founder of the Motion Picture Institute. This hands-on approach was developed to address the gap in practical, on-set experience not offered by other Michigan colleges.
The Institute’s reputation for excellence is reflected in the success of its graduates, who have ventured into all corners of the film industry, contributing to major IMAX motion pictures, top-rated cable shows, and more. It’s become commonplace to spot the names of MPI alumni in the credits of widely acclaimed productions, including popular series like Stranger Things.

The Motion Picture Institute is the ideal place for aspiring filmmakers who seek a focused, intensive education without the commitment to a four-year degree program. Recognizing the industry’s emphasis on practical skills over traditional degrees, MPI prepares students with a professional showreel that showcases their work, providing a solid foundation for their careers. “We offer a launching point that can either lead directly into the industry or transfer to university credits if desired,” Schulze adds.

Over 1500 graduates have been launched into the film industry by MPI, making it a trusted institution for those looking to start their film school education without leaving the state. “Give us one intensive year, and we’ll change your life forever,” promises the institute.

Enrollment is now open for classes beginning on March 25th. Interested individuals are encouraged to attend the upcoming open house, with the next session scheduled for Saturday, February 17th from 11am-1pm. This is an opportunity not only to learn more about the program but also to join in the celebration of MPI’s first 25 years of excellence in film education.
