A one-hour parade of nearly 200 classics–edited into 29 minutes!
What began in 1995 as a local soccer-field fundraiser of some classic car owners on some familiar 1950s Woodward Avenue cruising grounds has grown into an international draw for one million fans of nostalgia on the third weekend of every August.
Those of us who live not far from Woodward Avenue know that the Woodward Dream Cruise begins unofficially as soon as the weather is warm enough for a lawn chair–often in April. Half a mile from the main drag, the sounds of revving engines and squealing tires gets almost as commonplace as someone who lives under the L-tracks in Chicago.
MPI set up its camera on 12 Mile Road the night before the big event for Berkley’s annual CruiseFest (sponsored by DTE Energy) classic car parade. Fans get to see just the beautifully restored rolling works of art–without the extra traffic of “everyday” cars.
Special thanks to Bob Bronstein and his team at Patrick J’s for allowing us to camp out in front of the Irish Pub to get such great footage!
